I confess that I learned of the books last night watching The Colbert Report, and they're so over the top that at first I was sure that it was a parody. But noooo....and I was appalled and repugned (? the sensation of feeling repugnance?). I was planning to post something here about it, and then fortune smiled and SDAI-Tech1 provided the perfect intro.
In the interests of the spurious sort of fairness called "balance", I must of course draw attention to Why Mommy is a Democrat (also mentioned on TCB).
"A marvelous and
child-friendly
introduction to the
values of
Democrats."
-Thom Hartmann,
Air America Radio
And certainly as subtle in its use of symbolism, too:
Half-credit for the mea culpa:
Why Mommy is a Democrat may look like a traditional children's book, but it definitely isn't just for children. With numerous subtle (and not-so-subtle) satirical swipes at the Bush administration and the Republican party, Why Mommy will appeal to Democrats of all ages!
I wonder if I can further bust SDAI-Tech1's mental chops by asking him to compare-and-contrast "Why Mommy is a Democrat" with the works of Katharine deBrecht?
