Is there any possibility (as you imply) that either, or both, of these items originates from the other side than what it superficially appears to come from? It seems to me that a really devious propagandist could attack the other side by deliberately parodying his opponent's ideas and make them so over-the-top that it would bring discredit to them. The testimonials from both right and left could be easily explained as just plain stupidity.
And here's a question for TB, in your ramblings through the armpits and crotches of the blogosphere, have you ever stumbled on posts so offensive and ill-considered that you suspected they were deliberately constructed to smear their supposed (but not actual) creators?
As you've probably guessed by now, the entire concept of "black propaganda" has always fascinated me.
One for both of you
