This just in: Caricatures have exaggerated facial features!
Read one of these to any kid under 12 and they would have no frigging idea what they were talking about. "What's the donkey doing there, Dad? Who are these people?"
Get serious, Robert. I can think of a lot of other books that would be better at teaching my kids the values I would like them to have, and do it not by pounding it into their heads as propaganda, but by showing how the characters in the books deal with problems and other characters. You want to tell a kid about work, rewards, and looters? Just read them the "Little Red Hen." Many Dr. Seuss books have a lot of good lessons in them, and many other books show the value of initiative, honor, kindness, and self-reliance. None of these books have the words "liberal, conservative, Democrat," or "Republican" anywhere in them. To the best of my knowledge, I doubt if either of my kids ever read anything that did, outside of a newspaper.
