I find you amazing at times because you were barely BORN during the time of Vietnam so you can't remember the attitude associated with it. You never saw the protests in the streets, on campus or in Washington.
>"Bowser's implications that the Americans who served the US overseas are agents of US imperialism is a flagrant insult to those families, many of whom I know personally...."
In all my decades of knowing or working for Vietnam vets, all I can tell you is that they see the transparency of war and have some contempt for the latest war mongers. All of their psyches have been wounded. The only gung ho one I met pulled out a photo of he and his army buddy sitting with two trophy headless "gooks" they had killed and beheaded in some jungle over there. And I'm supposed to feel some good ole American "pride" here?
>"None of them gave diddly about "imperialism" and all of them busted their tail and genuinely helped and loved the people in the nation where they were stationed."
Some came home with Vietnamese brides especailly if they had jobs that never saw combat, but some killed young Vietnamese soldiers or villagers while looking them in the eye. Please don't try and put some new romantic spin on our involvement over there. Sometimes it seems you're out of touch with reality.
