Part of the problem of having near universal female teachers in the k-12 system is the discipline. I hear firsthand about teachers who are routinely called b**** and worse by students and even threaten female teachers. Profanity is now everywhere - even in the kindergarten classroom where it used to be one would seldom encounter it. A male teacher may not get treated much better, but there is still the primal fear that a male teacher might suddenly go nuts after a student gets way out of line and the fear of that violence keeps the kids somewhat in line at least until high school.
Arizona is contemplating legislation that let's teachers and faculty carry guns. Not the best answer, by any means. The US just needs to create more parity between male and female teachers so that schools are not just perceived as being just run by "a bunch of old women".
In Europe and Japan there are FAR more male teachers, and their education system is right now light years better than our primary system.
