re: Female teachers?

There was a great article in Pictorial Review from September 1930 about the link between female teachers in US Schools and declining educational quality. It was written by professor Robert E. Rogers of M.I.T. who saw standards going down the toilet, because the females were not as well educated and were often just "handy" and convenient, especially in rural areas.

It's title: "The Feminization of our Schools"

I read it. And I agree with much of the premise of Professor Rogers.

But go ahead, pin it on sexism, racism or what have you...the bottom line is our schools are filled with folks who can't teach a child to conjugate a verb properly - make TONS of spelling errors - and demonstrate they are from homes where books are rarities. You should visit the schools these days ER. Way too many children can't even handwrite properly - even by the time they reach high school! The teachers download homework that is inferior from websites and many children have no books. I blame the districts, the schools and the teachers for whom such is considered providing an acceptable education. Sure we can talk about teacher salaries - and that is a part of it - but America is knee deep in unqualified, lazy teachers. The profession has attracted folks who do not have scholarly interests or care about educating children. Rather it's a "kick back" job with months of vacation, decent insurance and easy hours.

And that, my friend, is having a serious impact on the declining culture, intellectual development and even the GDP of America.
