You're an apologist.
He's a liberal taking a position to try and rewrite history and rehabilitate the image of leftists during the Sixties, so of course you're going to defend him. That doesn't make what he said any less meaningless. It's no different than an "art critic" rambling on for hours about the deeper meaning of a blank canvass and some wannabe intellectual saying, "Right on, I know exactly what you're saying."
His book is simply a political opinion piece dressed up with the trappings of psychological jargon.
