Subjective, sure, but I don't see any possibility for some sort of objective research.
Not to long ago, I made sure to ask every fellow I knew who had been to vietnam if anyone ever spit on them or anyone they personally know, or were called a baby killer, or in anyway openly disrespected for having been in the war.
Several insisted it happened, but when asked closely, it had never happened to the or any of their buddies.
At least one of them cracked a smile and said something like 'Gee, you kids are just now figuring out that whole thing was just a big pile of bullshit told by the assholes who never wore a uniform?'
I'm sure it happened to someone, somewhere, sometime. But to hear the dramatically recited lockstep of the right, there was a gauntlet of spitting hippies a mile long walked by every soldier getting off the planes.
