Try and focus.

We're talking about a formalized interrogation procedure that was used officially by our intelligence agencies on about three people shortly after 9/11. These people weren't "suspects." They were known terrorists.

It's a serious issue because these interrogations weren't being done by some loose cannons in an Iraqi prison, they were approved and specified by our national authorities at the highest levels, so in many ways it has deeper policy implications than unapproved behaviors would.

And there were no "thousands tortured." Anywhere.

This will blow over long before it gets to any serious legal action, because as soon as they start hauling in those who approved this, a lot of leading Democrats are going to look down and see the chains tightening around their own ankles. There's a reason people like Nancy Pelosi have largely avoided this issue.

Obama released this information against the advice of Panetta and four previous CIA directors. Any legal action may well spread into the damage this did to our security, too.

Although liberals don't seem to realize it, there's sometimes more to national security issues than just doing things that give you a glow of righteous satisfaction and self-superiority.
