"There was a reason this release happened now"

Yeah, and as much as you'd like to THINK it has something to do with mis-direction on his part because of the economy, I can tell you it has nothing to do with it.

What it has got to do with is an ugly and gruesome legacy that's hanging over the US, thanks to Bush and Cheney. And it's not just strictly about "waterboarding" ("oh for pete's sake, they've been doing it for centuries"). It has to do with Abu Garaib and the horrid and abusive techniques that were ALLOWED there. Remember? Detainees thrown naked on top of each other four high, feces smeared all over them. Detainees forced to fellate other detainees. Chained naked with women's underwear on their heads near aggressive dogs.
Forced to stand for hours hooded on a small box with electrodes attached to sensitive body parts. In your mind, all that is allright? It's nothing new, move on?

Rumsfeld KNEW about this for months, and still no charges were brought, not did he stop it.

>"Obama is dying on the economy, and they have to revive some of the old Bush-era attack standbys to try and halt potential Republican gains. "

There ARE no Republican gains. Even Republicans are splitting from their own party because there's not that much left they can identify with except for the Rovian or Limaugh fans.
And Obama is doing a pretty damn good job bringing some sanity and morality back to the homefront, where there is much to repair, and much more to be offered to bring us back to that country that leads the world.
