It's Bush Denial Syndrome. Bowser's right, the distraction is coming from the Right, and from it's apologists, and the eagerness to sweep it all under the rug so we can "move on to something else" is disgraceful.
The desperation to pretend none of this ever happened, which can only be settled for certain by public exposure, even if no prosecutions result, is being resisted because it might embarass the Right, and threaten its ubiquitous self-serving domestic economic agenda.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, "extraordinary rendition" alone, (what a lovely euphemism that is!), is enough to merit public outrage. We self-righteously refuse to talk to the Syrians diplomatically but we outsource our torture jobs to them. These perpetrators, and any who knowingly make excuses for them, are worthless filth.
