The last surplus we had was with Republicans running Congress and a Democratic president. I'm really interested in getting more than one data point on that rare occurrence. I'm hoping for the Senate in 2012.
You don't create real, useful jobs just by printing money and throwing at political supporters. Like I said before, if it was only about jobs, I could create millions of them just by directing the government to print or borrow enough money to fund construction of a full-sized Egyptian pyramid in every county in the U.S.
At some point you need private businesses making lots of money to get economic growth and healthy revenues with low tax rates. It's what also happened in the late 90s. Whether that had anything to do with what the government did is questionable, so maybe my one data point isn't that good either.
