Remember when I compared the 2009 CBO projections to the current ones? (Table 1).
Look for yourself at the actual end-of-2008 debt number from the first report, 40.8 percent GDP (not 60 percent), and the projections for the next ten years: A peak of 54.4 percent in 2011, and then dropping steadily until it's about 42 percent in 2019.
Then look at the current projection. The actual debt level in 2010 is 62.1 percent of GDP instead of 54.2. And every number beyond that is higher than the one before. And it's not just the actual numbers, it's the trend curves. Sure, we had higher levels during WWII. And then they came right back down again.
The first report was written in January of 2009. The last one on March 18th of this year. That's two years and two months, and you can see yourself how the projections have changed. What are they going to look like two years from now?
I understand that the CBO is not an oracle. Anything but, since in some cases it's "GIGO." Heck, I remember projections of surpluses as far as the eye could see back in 2000. But it's all we have to go by.
What's really scary is an entire political party that has decided that none of this is real.

It's the most important government issue right now.
