the anti-war perspective

If this guy (call him "The Professor" is from your old department, I can see where you got the trait of being unable to make a point in less that fourteen pages. ;)

And I thought I was windy.

I'm too lazy to fisk the whole thing, but just a couple of points:

...in particular there is no evidence
of a continuing nuclear arms program in Iraq, and that's virtually impossible to
hide.

Saddam quite successfully hid a good portion of his nuclear program from the outside world until it was peeled away after the Gulf War. This is worth reading.

If we were currently massed around North Korea, the same people complaining that we're paying no attention to North Korea would be screaming just as loud that we had no right to interfere. North Korea is a red herring. Anyway, I would bet a lot is going on under the table with China on this, which is why U.S./N.K. talks are not appropriate as yet.

You know, what's really ironic is that if Bush suddenly did exactly what the opposition wanted, and pulled the troops home, and the U.N. spent another five years puttering around the desert before they gave up and went home, and then ten years from now Saddam comes roaring out with nuclear arms and took the Arabian Peninsula, shredding Israel into a nuclear hell, not one of these people would stand up and say, "I was wrong."

The Left, after enthusiastically plastering over a century of abysmal failures on the part of their beloved socialism, would have little trouble papering over their role in the obliteration of the Middle East.

In fact, I would bet they figure out a way to blame it on Bush and America.

If you honestly think Saddam left alone for a decade will stay put and take up knitting, I've got a bridge to sell you.
