Hmm, you could say that Brooks wants couples to bond and Dems want everyone to bond together into the institution of a govt.
One could say both are violating the first of the ten commandments.
You could say this, but this doesn't mean I'm saying it- you probably need some fanatical fundementalist in order to have this said:)
As far as Gay marriage, I think the federal govt should avoid getting involved in this issue. I think that at state level the federal govt could allow this, meaning, not step in & enforce it beyond the state it is enacted, nor could the state make their law in such a way that it should be enforced beyond the state.
Marriage, of course, is not just about the couple, it's an agreement which involves a community of closely related people. And the breakdown of marriage, is probably related to the breakdown communities of "closely related people"- the alienation brought about by the effort of "trying to get everyone bonding together into the institution of a govt". Or to say this "nicely" without attaching any apparent blame [objectivify it], you could say it's due to the general trend of population going from rural to urban centers- with these urban centers poorly organized for human interaction.
Or I could describe this simply: If you organize bottom up, people tend bond together. If you organize top down, you have tendency to divide people.
Hence, A large, powerful, centralized govt commonly produces alienation.
