"Supporting maximizing the size of government, abortion on demand for all ages and at all stages of pregnancy without parental notification for minors, making private gun ownership illegal, opposing human industrial activity anywhere in the environment, and quotas based solely on skin color. And stridently opposing Judeo-Christianity in any aspect of public life, not to mention culturally."
I was being a bit sarcastic, but you can try to scrape dirt over it using the standard liberal buzz phrases and sanitization, and this would probably work just fine on a journalist, but my statement was completely accurate as it stood.
- Not sure how "increasing government spending" in perpetuity is different from "maximizing the size of government," but I'll let that one go.
Ask any activist who actually is directly involved in these issues. Go ahead, try it. Heck, try it on just some liberal friends who aren't particularly activists.
- Ask someone who works for NARAL these questions:
Should abortion be legally restricted for minors?
Should parents be legally required to be notified in the case of a minor?
Should abortions be funded by the government when necessary?
Is there any stage of a pregancy where abortions should not be legal?
- Ask someone who is active in gun-control issues these questions:
Should a prime goal be making handguns illegal?
Should all firearms be registered with the Federal Government?
And if you catch him with a few drinks in him:
Should all privately-owned guns be made illegal?
- Ask someone who volunteers with Greenpeace:
Where in America would you actually support someone building a factory, a power plant, or a department store; digging a mine, building a dam, running new power lines, making a new road, drilling for oil or natural gas, putting up a housing development, enlarging an airport, or cutting down trees for lumber in a forest?
Regardless of how clean it was?
When I was young, being an environmentalist was about cleaning up industry, not eliminating it. Things have changed.
- Ask an advocate of affirmative action:
Is affirmative action based on skin color? If not, then what? If you have an affirmative action program, how do you tell when it has worked? How do you tell when you have not done enough yet? By counting the number of minorities admitted? By calculating percentages from each group concerned?
In what way is this not using quotas?
- As for opposing religion in government, the Left opposes religious people in government. Is this now the same thing? Have we twisted "establishment of a religion" to mean that no one in or near government shall be an observant Christian or Jew lest he contaminate us all?
For a state to "establish" a religion means that it becomes illegal not to support that religion. The Founding Fathers came from places where this was the case. Nothing that is currently controversial on this issue comes within a parsec of this definition. It has become an issue of "offending" people who may have to actually look at something that has a religious connection, or the possibility that tax money may have gone to display something religious. Oddly, there seems to be no problem spending billions in tax money on other things that may offend some Americans.
For a real good time, compare the tolerance of the Left towards Muslim religious activity in public places (like schools) to their intolerance of Judeo-Christian activity. That's another whole thread on its own.
