Oh, I'm the one living in fantasyland?
- Ask someone who works for NARAL these questions:
Should abortion be legally restricted for minors?
Should parents be legally required to be notified in the case of a minor?
Should abortions be funded by the government when necessary?
Is there any stage of a pregancy where abortions should not be legal?
- Ask someone who is active in gun-control issues these questions:
Should a prime goal be making handguns illegal?
Should all firearms be registered with the Federal Government?
And if you catch him with a few drinks in him:
Should all privately-owned guns be made illegal?
- Ask someone who volunteers with Greenpeace:
Where in America would you actually support someone building a factory, a power plant, or a department store; digging a mine, building a dam, running new power lines, making a new road, drilling for oil or natural gas, putting up a housing development, enlarging an airport, or cutting down trees for lumber in a forest?
Regardless of how clean it was?
When I was young, being an environmentalist was about cleaning up industry, not eliminating it. Things have changed.
- Ask an advocate of affirmative action:
Is affirmative action based on skin color? If not, then what? If you have an affirmative action program, how do you tell when it has worked? How do you tell when you have not done enough yet? By counting the number of minorities admitted? By calculating percentages from each group concerned?
In what way is this not using quotas?
- As for opposing religion in government, the Left opposes religious people in government. Is this now the same thing? Have we twisted "establishment of a religion" to mean that no one in or near government shall be an observant Christian or Jew lest he contaminate us all?
I stand firmly on these statements. You know damn well what the answers from these "mainstream" organizations to these precise questions would be, and so does everyone else here. Go through the NARAL website and find one statement that contradicts the positions I put forward.
If you asked a Greenpeace member if they opposed all industrial activity, of course they would say no. But ask them the questions I posed here. Heck, just ask them where we should be able to explore for new oil reserves in the U.S.
If "affirmative action" isn't based on skin color and ancestry, what the hell IS it based on? I really want to know. Again, how do you know if an affirmative action program has worked or not? Exactly? It is physically impossible without having in mind a certain percentage of a specific skin color or ancestry that you think OUGHT to be in a school, job category, or other institution.
This is called a "quota." If you have a different definition of quota other than gauging results by numbers or percentages, please enlighten me.
As for religion, the Left is perfectly comfortable with it, as long as you don't get too obvious or consistent about it. Kind of like some conservatives and sexual orientation. This is why we have a lot of pro-abortion "Catholics" in government, and why they weren't bothered by a President who could cheat on his wife hours after leaving church.
