Relax. We're right where we ought to be, making our own choices based on our own knowledge and circumstances. If gas gets expensive, smaller models will sell well. Or maybe larger models will come out with hybrid engines. Hybrid SUVs are already getting ready to roll out. Maybe something completely different will solve the problems.
Where I have a problem with the issue is the reflexive reach for the gun by the Left. Tax SUVs. Mandatory mileage standards. Tax extra cars. Higher gas taxes. More money-losing mass transit programs. Better and wiser people deciding how we should live our lives.
We heard the advice, now leave us alone.
People back in the 1970s started buying small cars when the artificially low 39 cent-a-gallon prices were allowed to drift upwards. When mileage on larger cars improved, and gas prices stabilized, larger cars became cost-effective again. The market works. As long as gas prices are not subsidized, the market will deal with the situation. This is frustrating to those who just know they have a better idea, if they were just given the authority they need.
