re: Responsibility is:
[a] Not somebody else's job, but yours.
Tell that to the people who own or go to opera houses and giant theaters for plays who have massive heating, cooling and electric bills all which consume valuable resources.
Tell that to people who want to visit Disney World. Talk about a useless use of valuable resources wasted.
One could go on and on, just pick your pet peeve.
The problem I have is singling out the automobile. Where's the responsibility issue like with people who build over 3000 sf. houses who consume large amounts and waste resources?
I just don't see how anybody can complain about the fancy car owner wasting resources when the rest of society waste a lot more resources in other ways.
