One explanation of the difference.

T. B. - "And the liberals who are screaming about the government telling us how to live don't seem to mind the government telling us how to live in hundreds of other ways. Guess it depends on whose ox is getting gored."

I think the difference is that liberals are interested in seeing that a common good is maintained - such as a safe environment for everyone. I believe it's legitimate to see that others don't unnecessarily pollute my back yard, or my front yard, or me. Or that I don't unnecessarily infringe upon others. Seems reasonable.

Within that enviroment, consenting adults should be free to conduct themselves with a great deal of latitude on matters which only affect them. Including, for God's sake, marriage.

Period.

I have to admit it's a shock to one's socialization to think about same-sex marriage, but once I considered it awhile I can't think of any reason to not allow it. It isn't as if anyone is making anyone else get married.

Christians seem to want to tell other people how to live even in the most personal matters which do not have an affect on the Christians, and then how to die. For instance, they would not hesitate to have someone (else) suffer to death, ascribing it to God's Will.

You say, no one suffers to death anymore. Not true, horror stories abound of physicians afraid to prescribe an appropriate amount of drug because of Christian inspired and Ashcroft enforced laws. (If only he were so vigorous with gun laws. Heh, heh.)

Anyway, those are one dogs' opinions. One modest dog, humble puppy, and all that. All that nonsense.

And I still think that if they were happy with what they were experiencing in their relationship with their God, they wouldn't be so interesting in telling everyone else how to live. Christ had the answer, He really was THE MAN, but I don't know how many people after him "get it".
