Invading Iraq pissed off a lot more than Islamists. It also pissed off (and threatened) all countries with Islamic populations. Many muslims in the world think that America is their enemy.
You're not negating my critical point, which is that the invasion of Afghanistan alone would have done exactly this, and probably more so than if we had invaded Iraq alone, since Afghanistan contained a model Islamist government.
You cannot claim to be in support of the invasion of Afghanistan and at the same time complain that we should not be taking actions to make fundamentalist Muslims hostile towards us.
Remember, the Official Liberal Story is that Muslims and Saddam were not on the same page in any way, and that fundamentalist Muslims in fact hated him. That they hate America as well hasn't changed that much since Israel was founded.
