If YOU are the one in trouble that is an important factor.

Again you sound like an "office" engineer who has never had to deal with equipment sent to the field with while tested in the firm's parking lot. If you had to actually use it on Mars and your life depended on it you wouldn't see testing in on the Moon as an "expensive detour".
