I put it at the kindergarden level so you understand it.
Is it just as easy to go 8 months without eating as 3 days when your food goes bad or is lost? Try it if you actually believe it is.
And is it just as easy to go 8 months without water as 3 days? Again try it.
Bottom Line is that backup life support is much easier if you are are three days from a supermarket versus a year or more.
You get to the Moon and find ISRU doesn't work for life support its easy to bail out home and live to talk about your adventure.
You get to Mars and find the soil is toxic or living off the land doesn't work and you are out of luck. Going without food or water for the months it take for the next launch "window" to open up is not an option.
Again to make it simple. You run out of food on the Moon and are stranded you may be able to last until the next cargo rocket reaches you in a week or two.
If you are on Mars you have no chance of survival until the next supply rocket arrives in a year or two.
Its all about life support.
The exploration of Mars will be a history of death from stravation and stravation related dieases just like polar expeditions a hundred years ago were unless folks learn to live on the Moon first where you may have a chance of surviving your screw-ups.
Case closed. Its so easy to disprove the lies of Mars fools like you.
