Getting rid of the DLC is the first step on the road to recovery. Its strategy of ideological appeasement worked once, when moderate Clinton ran against moderate George I, but since then it's become a losing formula in the face of the newly radicalized Right. The DLC turned the Democratic Party into the Vichy Party.
I get to tease you once again by pointing out that reform of the Democratic Party is one of several necessary threads in the rehabilitation of the Left's political machinery, and news like this is a reassuring sign that things are moving forward, quietly and generally under the radar. Credit where credit is due, the Republicans taught us a powerful lesson in the last election--it's downright humliating to have lost to George W. Bush after his first term. Winning by all rights should have been like shooting fish in a barrel, and we have nobody to blame but ourselves for failing. So thanks, it was a useful learning experience.
