When I read all that, it struck me as pretty over the top in the way it echoed the golden age of the British Empire. And that sort of thing always makes me wonder whether you're serious. Our very first interaction on MSNBC, lo these many years ago, came when I read a post about vortex theory. I congratulated you on an excellent parody and you ripped my face off, because of course you were serious. Yet, over the years you've also demonstrated a gift for parody. You can probably understand how I"m sometimes cautious trying to navigate between the Scylla and Charybdis of your two sides.
So before I even try to respond, would you confirm that you really meant to write an essay oozing the smarmy chauvinism and arrogant paternalism of a 19th Century Englishman?
