Current Events » in reply to The White Man's Burden?

Truth and fiction often meet in the strangest places.

Let's take a yes or no quiz:

1) Are their such things as inalienable human rights?
2) Do nations have inalienable rights?
3) Do you believe the US has the best governmental structure of all nations?
4) Are some practices unacceptable?
5) If two nations ideologies create conditions of war- is it appropriate to support the side with more freedom?
6) Does great power come with great responsibility?
7) Is it appropriate to eliminate illiteracy?
8) Do you believe illiteracy contributes to the popularity of certain religions?
9) Is a certain level of education a human right?

I certainly don't see it as the White Man's burden. There are plenty of white men that are in equal need of education. I see the world as a global family. It's quite dysfunctional right now. There are crazy aunts and uncles; disobedient children and some true hellions, some grandparents are deaf and out of touch while others are over-meddling. It's not hopeless. But the family can get along under the right infrastructure. Certainly better than without any guidance.

I see the US as a guidance counselor, parent and gifted child all rolled up into one.

Nations create their own authority. There is no legitimate organization that grants legitimacy to a government or its actions. In the end it is man and mankind that create the governments and their agendas.

Each nation has its own agenda. Often the agenda is a single man's agenda or that of a small group. The US is the byproduct of a number of swift 18th century folks whose experience and knowledge led to a very workable government that for two centuries many folks from around the world have left their nations to live under.

A global government is undesirable. A one-world government is impractical. For much the same reason capitalism spurs creativity, a world must remain culturally diverse.

That said, the US has handed out free fish for decades with no thanks.

Now, many in the US realizes it must teach other nations to fish.

PS
Sorry for ripping your face off back then. I hope it has healed sufficiently. If not I know some talented plastic surgeons. ;-)
