Tom, Tom, Tom, you know that the Democrats lost the last election by trying to move to the center, where they were roundly criticized for having no real alternative to offer. You've said so yourself, and questioned whether the Democrats stand for anything. That's the DLC influence, the slow retreat from principle in the name of expediency, and it's proved to be a losing strategy.
I was serious when I said that the last election was a wakeup call. The political machinery of the Left has been busy performing an autopsy on the 2004 election, and the conclusion is pretty obvious: The Democrats lost their voice. They allowed the Republicans to frame the debate and lost half the battle right there. I agree with the prevailing opinion that what will win next time is a strong voice, of the kind that will surely cause the Right to run around shrieking "Commie!". I'm looking forward to it.
