You can't be serious. The election was lost because Kerry is about as left as you can go. They played up Vietnam for all its worth and tried to draw parallels that intelligent folks glossed right over as BS.
We still see the hardcore left here (Bowser & Don for starters) trying to Vietnamize Iraq. Unfortunately, this approach works well for 50-somethings but leaves every other liberal age bracket scratching their heads and shouting "WTF?"
The only way Democrats will win is by outdoing the conservatives at the war game. Saying "We can do this and better!" not bty splitting or calling in France and Germany like Kerry suggested, but rather by pushing the idea that a six month seek and destroy push with increased special forces might root out terrorists in hotspots.
They went left. Far left. And they paid for it. Now they want to go farther left (like Seattle's infamous 27.4%) and drive the party into complete oblivion and irrelevance.
The mainstream American doesn't resonate with whining. Liberals, unfortunately, whine a lot. Complaining about Bush, Iraq, just makes them sound like leftist crybabies to the rest of the US and they turn off the message ASAP.
No, the democrats must push right on foreign policy and re-establish some credibility on economic reform, job security, wages, etcetera.
If they do not, they will surely fracture and split into two or three small radical parties.
