On the one hand invoking Socratic priciple.......

And on the other hand disregarding his best student, and the only source we have of knowing what Socrates said. Talk about rampant inconsistency!

In his "Republic" Plato advocated undemocratic rule by a meritocricy, an anti-capitalistic managed economy, free love for the elite, abandonment of the gold standard, abolishment of private property for the leaders (Guardians), and education of the children to be the common responsibility of the group.

While I greatly appreciated the wisdom of Socrates as applied to the immigration dispute, and I agree with the point the author is making, I also am aware this is one of the tides of history that not only can't be turned back; but already has engulfed us.

You do raise an interesting question though, can student be divorced from teacher? If so, then you and Tom have absolutely nothing to continue to complain about when you address public education and university academia. If not, and you agree with Socrates on the strict adherense to the rule of law even as it pertains to immigration policy, then you should both recognize your capitalism dogma is faulty and switch over to a managed economy, free love, and sell gold short on the commodities market.

Thanks for an illuminating post.
