I'm also amused by the change from "equality of opportunity" to "equality of outcome".

The income distribution in the US, at least, has become more and more unbalanced. To have equality of opportunity, we have to have opportunity. We have less and less of that, and the lower on the income scale you go, the less opportunity you have.

The industrial jobs upon which the equal opportunity system was based, so that people without much education could climb the ladder through physical labor, are gone.

Meanwhile, the Republican majority is busy trying to make sure that the heirs to multimillion-dollar fortunes get to keep all their inheritance tax-free, their "work" constituted of breathing longer than their parents, while my children pay taxes on their earnings. How equal of everybody.

I'm not interested in "equality of outcome", but a return to equal opportunity would be good.
