Another myth that needs addressing

My main disappointment with the current situation is that the Iraqis are not helping us as much as they could.

In fact, the Iraq people have gone much further than anyone would have a right to expect in helping to free their own country.

A vast majority of Iraqis have resisted violence in the face of overwhelming provocations from secular gangs, terrorists, and even coalition actions.

Most still want democracy, and the rights of free people. Even now, sixty percent still believe that getting rid of Saddam was worth what they are going through.

Iraqis have stepped up in their own defense. Recruits still line up for police and army positions, even the day after such lineups have been mowed down in bloody heaps by insurgents. I think there's a bit more there than a desire for army paychecks.

Iraqi troops have been on the front lines, and taking more of the load across the country.

Remember the "taking of Amara" that made a lot of news here? Iraqi forces have taken it back. That didn't make a lot of news.
