You must be a member of a liberal congregation, TB. Every one I've been in has gloried in the torments of the wicked in the pit.
I understand there are regional and temporal reasons for this, and I'm perfectly aware that not all denominations share the same vindictiveness. But I'm sure you've read Jonathan Edwards' colonial sermons, and that sort of ferocity has always been a part of American Protestantism. And I'm sure you'll recognize there are other forms of monotheism in the world that are just as vicious.
