We seem to have gone from "riches to even more riches," and "family money" to complaining about the lack of millionaires from poverty backgrounds. I think millionaires from middle-class families count.
Education in this country is free through grade 12. We are spending three times the money per student today on education than we were in 1960, in constant dollars. We have "invested" trillions in our poorer citizens, at least according to those in our government who believe forced dependence is the same as "investment."
Whatever. I believe this has more to do with the modern poverty culture than it does the lack of opportunity.
It still comes down to the same thing, the same three step thought process that underlies pretty much all liberal economics:
"My lack of success is not my fault."
"That successful person didn't really do anything to earn his success."
"So why can't we take what he has?"
