To some extent I agree with you.
But the bloodiest, most devastating, bitterest wars have been begun in Religious or Idealistic fervor.
Conflict over real estate tends to be more pragmatic. Usually ending more quickly when both sides come to the realization that the cost of war far exceeds the value of real estate under contention.
Wars over Ideas, whether Religious or Political, are far more violent and historically last much longer. When the countries or cultures clash over difference in Ideals or Religions, active conflict can last quite literally for centuries.
