For all the screaming and yelling about U.S. citizens being hauled off into the night, libraries being ransacked, and all the rest, in five years not one credible example of a U.S. citizen actually having his constitutional rights destroyed in this manner has ever come up.
Even the one example you might come up with, Jose Padilla (uniformly referred to in the media--for obvious reasons--by that name instead of the one he adopted, al Muhajir) is, as far as I know, now being processed through the normal justice system.
That's after five years of furious opposition to the policies of the Bush administration and America's foreign policies, including a fusillade of hatred toward the President that would have resulted in legal actions even in some Western countries.
Nothing. Not one American has been dragged into the Gulags without trial.
And please, spare me the loopy "secret disappearance" theories. We all know that no American is going to get hauled off into the night by the Men In Black without dozens of friends, relatives, newsmen, civil liberty organizations, and battalions of lawyers making a huge stink about it, legal prohibitions or not.
