Flame » in reply to Dredd Scott was also "the law."

Rosa Parks went to jail.

It was a catalyst for the law to start to be changed.

Dredd Scott was returned to his master. That, too, was a catalyst, but in that case the government itself had to change through Civil War.

The suspension of habeas corpus has been passed but it hasn't been challenged in court yet. It may still be declared null. I want to see the Constitutional right to habeas corpus defended and restored. The law was changed rashly by a rubberstamp Congress that hasn't held meaningful hearings in years, and signed by a President with no respect for those who disagree with him. I'll work to see that law changed. In fact, it might be instructive to see the law vigorously enforced, so we might see just how bad it really is.

The examples you have given confuse enforcement of the law with support of rights. They aren't always the same thing. I support enforcement of the law. I support making law that protects people's rights and changing law that doesn't, rather than merely ignoring it. Since we are a nation of laws, it's the only way we'll survive as a nation. There's nothing inconsistent about that.
