I'm just now beginning to realize how MUCH of the arguments on your side are based as firmly on speculation about what MIGHT happen as some of mine are.
I'm fascinated by how worried so many people are about home-grown fascism while ignoring the threat of the real fascists howling at our doors. This falls neatly into the psychological mindset where an imaginary threat that actually is no threat is a lot easier to confront than a real one.
Do I need to point out that we have had, in this country for years, a power structure that would also permit President Bush, or President Hillary, to launch nuclear missiles across the oceans?
Do I lose sleep over this? No.
Not only have no U.S. citizens been abused under current rules, but the grand total of current detainees numbers a bit over 250 in Guantanamo, of which a grand total of 14 were the "high value" prisoners that were formerly kept in other places. Almost all of these have access to the Red Cross and other rights groups.
