Very minor side detail here, but my understanding was that the tidal forces locked one side of the Moon facing the Earth. Shortly thereafter, the Earthâ€™s gravity pull what molten material was left to the Earth side. This is why the Mares are mostly on the Earth side. I could be wrong on this.
