re: Contributing factors

Some media have called him a kid, but he was a 23 year old man. And he was about to graduate.

There have been some people, like his roommate and suite mates who tried to talk to him and make friends with him, but he refused to say anything or acknowledge them. So when he lashes out at them all and blames them, what does he expect them to do. He refused to communicate and socialize with them. What more could they do?

I think there are many pieces to this puzzle.

One is the rejection of the girls. And it is really bad when one gets obsessed over a girl, which he must have been to stalk them.

And he obviously was jealous about the rich kids.

But there has to be more than that. Desensitized to violence through video games, movies and rap music? Maybe. But it takes more than that.

What about his home life? I had a good Oriental friend in High school that was born in China. His parents were very strict. His sister went to Harvard Law School and he was expected to do the same. When he went to UT, he parents almost disowned him, for he was a disgrace to the family.

Perhaps the shooter was supposed to get an Engineering degree but he couldn’t cut it so he became an English major. And here he was, set to graduate in a few weeks with a useless degree and no prospects for a future.

All the puzzle pieces would cause a person grief and despair, but still it takes more to do what he did. One of his teachers said he was “mean”. Maybe his wiring was just all messed up from the start.
