That is my problem. If I got a gun, it would be for home defense. But being locked in a gun safe, it would be worthless for home defense. Yet, if I kept it out somewhere, ready to be loaded and fired, it would be a danger for the kids.

I find my two large dogs work great for home security. They are very protective of the kids.
