That's cool
I think almost eveyone's first gun is a single shot 410, or so it seems. Mine was a breach loader, and I've still got it. I grew up hunting, but grew away from it after seeing all the waste. Many people hunt, but don't eat what they kill. I don't believe in that.
Gun safety comes from familiarity. Most gun accidents involve children who have guns in the house but aren't allowed to touch them. The guns are a "dirty secret" that the parents have hidden away and never talk about. Snooping kids find them and want to hold and play with them. The forbidden fruit still holds danger it seems. When guns are as ordinary to a child as the kitchen knives, they lose their fascination.
