Current Events » in reply to FOX probably would have showed the whole thing...That don't make it right.

Varying degrees of acceptability

We saw the security tape of a teenaged girl's abduction endlessly, even after her corpse was recovered and the criminal apprehended. Glad I'm not her mother, for many reasons, and that's one of them.

How many times did you watch Rodney King being beaten up?

When what's his name shot Ronald Reagan, it was shown so often that it inspired a parody on SNL featuring Eddie Murphy, "The Assassination of Buckwheat".

This is the world we live in. If you want it to change, we can discuss that. How?

If they had tape of a rape and attempted to show it, they would have to consult their lawyers and the victim's lawyer. Her right to privacy would limit their ability to show it. Sex crime laws pretty much guarantee that.

Personally, I wish NBC had waited about a week, but realistically, the lawsuits would have been filed either Wednesday or yesterday, and then FOX would have had it. I think they did the best they could, considering the business that they're in, but nobody I know is in a morgue in VA.

As it is, he was already "famous" before the video. The video is being used to turn him into not the mysterious hero, but the microscopically analyzed case study. Not perfect, but satisfactory.
