It's interesting. So many posts I read here raise the same questions.
From an earlier post of mine:
A much more important question, in my mind at least, is why are people sweating blood over corporations gaining the right to run political ads, and seemingly have no problems with government controlling almost every aspect of our lives? What happens to people in this country that inoculates them against creeping tyranny from the state, but raises every last hackle when a private entity threatens to step out of bounds?
We are fed the idea that government is the "good guy," and told that without an all-powerful government everything would fall apart. Of course there are corporations that abuse government power, but that's still government power. The solution to that is not more powerful government with more control over the economy and more access to power by merchant princes with access to The Court of the King. The solution is LESS power.
Granting even more power to the state to control the economy and our lives plays into the hands of corrupt businesses and further crushes those businesses who don't play that game. Fools think that when the government is given enough power, the corporations will be yoked and controlled, and forced to work for The People. In fact, the result will be politically-selected corporations that are indistinguishable from governments themselves, legal monopolies that are no different than what you find in a socialist state. The other corporations won't stand a chance.
Go look up why Harry Reid is getting the support of drug companies. Some big medical industries actually support nationalizing the health care system. I think each of them dreams of being the one to step up to the coveted position of THE health care company in a socialized system, with access to tax funds, and near-infinite power. To have the regulators and regulated be the same entity, and be forever and ever "too big to fail."
Kind of like the "Pemex" of their particular field.
^"The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again: but already it was impossible to say which was which." - Animal Farm^
When you get caught up in the enthusiasm for government putting a "boot on the neck" of the private sector, you are playing their game, and falling into their trap.
Just as an aside, there is only one religion right now threatening our freedoms, and it has the same centralized collectivist totalitarian philosophy that communism and fascism do. The only difference between Iran and Cuba is that the leaders of Iran pretend their abusive authority comes from God.
