Let history be your guide

Of course we learn from history, and while it may rhyme, the meter is changing, and we may not be able to depend wholly upon the lessons of the past. This economy was created by the exploitaion of easily available resources and a much smaller demand. The future holds new challenges for our civilization.

There is far more gray ahead than simple black and white answers, so I do not share your polar vision. We need to drill more natural gas, it is a much better fuel, but the fraking methods employed are having an effect on groundwater. No easy answer there. We need more deep water oil, but you can see the statistically predictable outcome being played out in the Gulf. The Taoist in me sees that what most people claim as right and wrong is actually what is comfortable verses uncomfortable to their own perception. But that's just my point o' view. We are in agreement of the virtues of the Capatalist System; however I fear it will be ripped apart not by outside socialistic forces, but by its own excessive inertia, greed, and abuse.

I generally respond in this forum to issues that my particular scientific expertise is productive to the conversation. I take many sides, but I do not frequently address them here.
