Thanks, oh Exalted Acting Moderator, but there's ed's post a bit farther down this same thread (and a duplicate "Attention, Robert" post beneath it).

35 years ago I studied for, took, and passed the FCC exam for the 3rd Class Radiophone license so I could go on the air at my college's 10-watt FM station. The rules were very strict then - and a few months later I almost got thrown off the station for playing the Firesign Theater's "Porgy Tirebiter" routine because it contained the word "masturbated". The changes in permissable language since then (cf. George Carlin's classic "Seven Words...") are mind-boggling to an oldster like me. There was a time, not too long ago, when one couldn't say something sucked and still be considered polite... unless it was a vacuum cleaner or an exhaust fan. Now it's all over the broadcast sitcoms, and as for cable TV... ~sigh~

For a liberal, I can be awfully conservative sometimes...
