Re: You're beginning to sound like a broken record

"2000 sites the military wants to inspect. The teams are able to cover at most 20 per day. You do the math. "

Okay, a month, roughly, at 20 a day and we have 600 sites down. Roughly 1/3rd...

Roughly 1/3rd of the suspected sites and no confirmed WMD...

I'm still willing to believe they exist- more out of a wrong-headed desire to NOT believe I was so very very very wrong than out of a cool assessment of the facts.

Cool assessment says that when we are surrounded by locals wanting to curry favor, we own 100% of the territory of Iraq, we have "free and unfettered" access to every sink, dune and burn... Well, Cool assessment suggests we should have found something significant by now.

Reason suggests that if we can't find them after a month of trying then maybe our justification, even if the WMD exists, was not so clear and decisive as we claimed.

JUST idle speculation here... Just my fears:
Look, I want to believe that Bush&co. were just incompetent and applied Reagan-esqu(*)'selection pressure' to the intelligence organs. I am beginning to suspect maybe we were lied to. None of the justifications for this war (even the ones I disagreed with) have borne out.

Maybe thats why the rheotoric changed in the 11th hour to a noble act of liberation? Shift the debate in our country and maybe the masses won't notice they were lied to?

(*) Declassified CIA analysies that were delivered to the Reagan administration portrayed a robust and aggressive Russia, even up to the moment of its collapse. Nobody in the administration wanted to hear that Russia was anything but Major-Supremo threat number one, and the career futz-heads were interested in telling the administration what the administration wanted to hear (promotions, post-government job ops, etc). Kennedy did simmilar stuff with the Bay of Pigs matter. Johnson did the same with Vietnam. This is often thought of as a form of selection pressure applied to information vectors.
