Let me make this clear for you.

Sperm cell has incomplete dna. It can not make anything. Same is true for the unfertilized egg.

Together at CONCEPTION they make a complete dna strand. This dna is unique from the mother and father. It has all the instructions fore building a unique person separate from their mother or father. The sperm and egg, by themselves, can not do this. The fertilized egg can, and will, if nothing stops it.

So the fertilized egg already has its own identity, its own, unique dna. This egg is also alive, and, if the parents are human, so is it. This egg is programmed to start building this unique person from the dna. All it needs from the mother is nutrients and a place to grow.

Lets go over this again. The sperm has only partial dna, from its father.

The unfertilized egg has only partial dna, from its mother.

By themselves, a unfertilized egg and a sperm do not make DNA for a unique person. Together, they do. Separate, they can not build anything, together they can.

When the egg is fertilized with the sperm, a unique strand of DNA is formed. That is the start of an individuals’ life.
