I, for one, am glad you're back. I have to agree with you that a good hot button for me too is unecessary "war". And that we have to demonize people to get there. I'm still curious about you military service, though.
I suspect you were speaking to a group tonight about your experiences because you ARE anti-war, and you can bring others to an understanding because of your experience. (forget the few armchair "theorists" around here who advocate war, your posts are always a breath of fresh air). A couple of my conservative friends ganged up on me the other night with their little sound bites about Sadam Hussein and the WMD. They wouldn't stop. I finally shut them up by telling them they were too young and has missed Viet Nam and were now too old to enlist. And that neither of them had any kids and that they had no idea what the risk was. That my son was 20 and if GWB gets re-elected the first thing he'll do is bring back the draft and that I'm worried and to STFU and you know what......they backed off. There is a good article in this month's Mother Jones with six profiles of 20 yr. old American soldiers in it.......just home from Iraq. Five have their legs blown off, the other one has lost an eye and has brain damage. They could be MY son, all for GWB and his lousy decision and eager pandering to Halliburton and Bechtel. Oh, did I forget? He's our "War President". Yup, that man makes me cringe. Not one ounce of humanity in him. Unless of course, he feels that God is talking to him or guiding him........
