If one is an advocate of British Airways...Lufthansa is offended. Get it?
If an attractive woman kisses another woman rather than a man. There are many men who are offended because it implies they are inferior. And vice-versa--women see men who prefer men and it implies they are inferior.
And it's not my values that are offended. Homosexuality and lesbianism don't bother me at all since I know precisely what causes it. As far as I know, no one exactly shares my values...and in reality I don't believe any two individual's values can be the same. I also am not offended as many people might be since they don't really understand the causes.
Understanding something does not mean advocating or endorsing it though. As I've stated on numerous occasions I don't think it's in an individual's best interests to propagate an imbalanced wavetrain.
My morality is based upon balance. Here's one of those annoying SDAI physics/morality lessons:
Good is really the absence of imbalance.
Likewise evil is the manifestation of severe imbalance.
A harp is harmonic and pleasing to the ear whereas a bullhorn creates discordant amplifications and in phase signals and subsequently irritation. Both are energy both have wave forms, amplitude and frequency. It's the imbalanced manifestation of that frequency that generates a negative reaction.
A Muslim calmly praying and praising Allah is good.
A Muslim decapitating someone to make a statement is evil.
One act regenerates a more balanced wavetrain and the other creates a massively discordant signal. Both acts regenerate. Naturally good acts make a person more good and evil acts make a person more evil.
Anything that leads to personal imbalance has the danger to turn a person away from good and towards evil.
Let's take the act-up folks who protest and chain themselves in the street. This is imbalanced and is 'evil.' Whereas someone calmly discussing values is good. The PETA folks are equally imbalanced and thats why their rescue missions and blood splashing are also 'evil' and will lead them to further 'evil.'
Heterosexuality, homosexuality or even onanism.--all these taken to extremes and when expressing with imbalance become destructive. The gigolo, the prostitute, the addict--all destructive manifestations of sexual behavior.
Anything taken to extremes becomes evil. If all HZers suddenly went crazy and chained ourselves to the White House to protest the lack of government attention to space issues we would go from positive advocacy--which is balanced--to negative advocacy--which is imbalanced. We would be going from good to 'evil.'
Sullivans advocacy is imbalanced. HZ is a balanced place because we don't go around calling non-space folking knee-dragging neanderthals. When Sullivan attacks folks who are imbalanced or gay-bashers, he enters the fray and only finds himself more imbalanced. This then adds more fuel to the fire--or more properly--adds further distortions to an already distorted wavetrain.
But it's late and I am already bordering on imbalance myself here in trying to explain myself.
;-)
Again balance is the key. When I see people who are imbalanced on an issue, whatever it may be, I know it needs to be balanced or it will be destructive to them and their long-term future and progress.
