I've run into maybe five people in my life who were that fundamentalist. Maybe you don't see them a lot in the engineering field. Used to work with a guy at 3M who believed the world was only about 4,000 years old. We used to have friendly arguments about it. Never convinced him otherwise, but he was not overt about it and didn't bother me or anyone else.

There are a lot of irrational beliefs in this world. Some cherished by the right, others cherished by the Left. The former have done a lot of damage over the past thousand years. In the last century, the latter have done more damage than all the rest combined.

I don't see "God is going to haul us all up into heaven before the big war" as any more dangerous objectively than "collectivism is the best way to run a nation."
